Mdm Hazaina is in her 70s, when most people are enjoying life in their golden years. However, her life has always been a struggle; her husband passed away when she was just 29 years old, leaving her a young widow with no means to support herself and their 3 children. She suffers from depression, early dementia, hypertension and frequent knee pain due to osteoarthritis. Mdm Hazaina is currently wearing a pacemaker that is placed in the chest to help control abnormal heart rhythms. Xin Yuan provides free physiotherapy sessions to monitor her progress.
Apart from her poor health, her greatest worry is her youngest son, Mr Mohd Yani, who is suffering from intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is unable to work and support himself and is highly reliant on his mother. He is plagued with health issues as well, such as diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure) and hyperlipidaemia (elevated cholesterol levels). Her other children have their own families to take care of and are unable to support them.
At present, Xin Yuan Community Care provides groceries as well as financial assistance and support to both mother and son. As both mother and son are illiterate, our nurses help them to take the correct dosage for their medications so that their illnesses can be kept under control. Our nurses also provide dietary advice in relation to their illnesses. In addition, Mr Yani is given neuro-feedback therapy to improve his mental ability. He is being taught brain exercises to boost his brain functions and memory.
With your support, Xin Yuan can continue to provide aid to this family. Your contribution will go a long way towards helping them.
